Can anyone shed any light on the best way to identify a projects media files (omfi) in the omfi files folder to back up to a dvd archive. Theyre all mixed together

December 18, 2008 at 3:08 pmPC or Mac? If you’re on a PC, use MDV or MediaSift. Here’s more info on them, plus a lot of other stuff I wrote about backing up to DVD:

Otherwise, open your project, go to Tools–>Media Tool, select the drive you want or all drives, select your project from the list, and check to show Precomputes and Media Files. Hit OK and it will load them all up. That’s how you can see what files are associated with that project.
To transfer them to another drive to back them up, make a new bin. Open Media Tool again but this time choose to show only Master Clips. It will load all the Master Clips associated with that project. Select them all and drag them to your bin. Now select everything in that bin and consolidate them to the drive you’re backing up to. It will copy all the media over. When you’re done you can delete the original media after checking that it all transferred.

January 29, 2010 at 7:34 pmHey Mike. Old post, I know… but I wanted to ask you to shed some light on the subject.
I plan to do some archiving using the media tool (show master clips, drag to bin, consolidate, etc.), but my question is, what happens if I need to recall this project? Will the databases point to the drive I consolidated to? Or will I have to relink to it?
I’ve seen lots of posts and tutorials on archiving but can’t find much info on recalling the media.
