  Relinking SD-quicktime to HD-dpx

  I’ve shot a movie on 16mm and got the material on a harddrive in dpx-files from the lab. I then converted this to SD-quicktime and imported it into Avid.

  Now I have cut the movie witch this SD-quicktime and I want to relink my master clips to the dpx-files in HD-resolution, if possible.

  If not, is there any smart workaround?

  You could try deleting the media files of your SD Quicktime, then select the now offline master clip and choose Batch Import. When the Batch Import box pops up, select the quicktime and choose Select Location. Point to the first DPX file (I assume these are numbered sequentially), and in your Import settings check Autodetect Sequential Files. This should import your DPX files as a movie and replace your SD Quicktime with your HD source.

  Oh yeah–make sure you switch to an HD project first or it will downconvert your HD DPX files to SD on import.

  Thanks for the reply Michael!

  I offlined the material in Media Composer. In the Format tab I selected 1080p/25 (since I’m in Sweden). In Media Creation I set the file format to MXF 1:1 (this is uncompressed, right?)

  Since I’m on Media Composer 2.8 I cannot import DPX (?). I use Meta Fuze to convert the DPX-files to Format: 1080 25p Compression: Uncompressed and got a huge .mxf-file

  In Media Composer I select my source clip and klick Clip/Batch Import. When I select my .mxf file I get “You cannot import this file into a bin. See the documentation for information about transferring media files”.

  What am I doing wrong?
