    Hello,

I’m running Media Composer v.3. I’ve been loading P2 cards shot at 720P/23.98. The production added another camera during the shoot which is HDVCam 1080i. Is there an efficient way to combine the footage? I know that Avid cannot work with different frame rates within the same project. I did try loading the HDVCam footage into FCP, exporting a quicktime and re-importing that quicktime into the 720P Avid project but it looks crappy with strobing video and scan lines. I have talked to some dub houses about doing a tape to tape conversion but everyone is saying they can’t convert from one frame rate to another. My first thought was that we could work with the crappy looking video in offline and ultimately perform an out of house online where we could re-load HDVCam tapes into a smoke or flame, and convert only the shots we’re using. Any ideas??? Thank you.

Okay, you have been given (or misunderstood) some bogus info.

You can convert from 30 to 24 in both a good and a bad way.

The good way involves some hardware like a Teranex box. This is similar to going from NTSC to PAL. It can be done well… or not so well.

It will never be perfect, but that is the nature of throwing way 6 frames per second and then, making up a new 6 frames when you go back to the 30 frame world that we in the US live in.

Go to the post houses you have been dealing with and tell the to give you a 24 frame master form your 30 frame tape.. (or file).
