consolidating whole project
I’m currently working on two featurefilms in the same series of films. They have both been shot simultaneously and captured onto the same lacie drive. Sound has been captured separately and syncronised with the video using subclips and autosync in avid. Now i want to collect all soundsynced subclips for film one and film two and put them onto two separate drives. My thought on doing this is as follows:
Make two new bins in my original project (where all media from both films are captured), one bin for film one and one for film two and copy each clips from either film one or film two into these bins and then consolidate these bins onto two separate external drives. IS THIS CORRECT?
After doing this, i want to be able to continue working on my original project on the computer i started off working on meanwhile the director is editing using the consolidated media on a different computer, simultaneously sending the edited sequence back and forward between these two stations. IS THIS POSSIBLE? WILL THIS CREATE ANY KIND OF PROBLEM WHEN ITS TIME FOR ONLINE?
Sorry for my many questions, but i just want to be sure before i do this…

Film 1 and Film 2 have both been captured into the same project? And you want Film 1 on Drive 1 and Film 2 on Drive 2? If so, what you’re wanting to do should work fine.
If you want both Film 1 and Film 2 to be on Drive 1 and Drive 2, just copy all the media folders at the OS level to Drive 1, then again to Drive 2.
Otherwise, consolidate should work fine, and you shouldn’t run into any problems.

Thank you Michael, I’ve made some tests now and this seems to work. Hopefully I wont run into any problems when its time for online. Another thing i thought would cause problems is that we are on different platforms, mac and pc but a brilliant little software called paragon sorted that one out. Thanks again.
