putting SD sequence in HD sequence
I looked for the answer in the archive but for some reason I could not find the answer. So here we go.
I am going to work on a project that are going to contain 60% of SD archive footage and 40% HD footage. and we are finishing as HD.
Most of SD archival footage exist in harddrives. (They have the source tapes but they don’t intend to go back to the source since some of the format is so olo like Hi-8, 3/4 inch.. film..).
And they are going to shoot additional HD footage in January. SD footage will be used with black pillar on the both side.The plan is that we are going to first edit SD footage only and then later we plug the HD footage in.
What is the workflow you recommend? In FCP, you can work SD footage in SD timeline and then copy and paste the sequence to HD timeline and you can blow up all SD clips then you render everything).Does this workflow work in AVID? what would you do?

Similar, but easier.
Create the sequence in an HD project to start. Then change the project type back to SD. Now capture or import your SD material.
When you are ready to go HD with your project, you just change it to 1080 under the project format tab.
That’s it.
And if you need to capture more SD material, just change the project back to SD.
You will need to add a reformat effect to pillar box the SD material as Avid will stretch it horizontally to fill the frame.
