  • MC 3.0 can’t export to certain drives

Posted by Mike Halper on October 5, 2008 at 9:56 am

I’m a new user to Avid. I’m using MC 3.0.5 on a Mac Pro. I’m trying export some clips to Quicktime .mov files. When I click on the “Save” button I get an error “File ‘FISSION.mov” not found. “FISSION.mov” is the name of the file I’m creating with the export. This happens when I try exporting to my RAID drive, any firewire drives, and any USB drives. I can export to the Macintosh HD or another internal drive I have with no problems. I don’t have enough space on either of those drives to complete all my exports though, so I need to export to the RAID drive.

UPDATE/CORRECTION: A little more experimentation has revealed I can export to my RAID drive as long as I export to the root of the drive and not to any folders on the drive. I can’t even export to any folders I create from within the MC export dialog box. I was able to export to folders before.

The strange thing is that this was all working fine 2 days ago with the identical export settings and the exact same clips without any issues at all. The only thing that’s changed is that the RAID drive has more space available on it now and that shouldn’t make a difference.

    Please help. Thanks!

Have readd/write rights, sharing, or privelages changed on the RAID?

No, none of that has changed. I have read/write privileges to both the drive and the folder(s) I’m trying to export to. I’m using the same user account I did 2 days ago.

You may want run Repair Permissions anyway. That can help a lot, even if it seems nothing else has changed. Do any of your other programs have auto-update turned on? Sometimes even a simple update can break things.

I tried repairing permissions as you suggested and I still can’t export to a folder. I also tried deleting the preferences file, but that didn’t work either. Any other thoughts?

Just tried alldrives in the console and that didn’t work either. I’m assuming you meant to say type alldrives in the console and hit enter, correct? Or is there another command I need to try after that?
