I’ve been using Avid for some time but on my home system I often get some really annoying and beguiling errors.

I’m using Express Pro 4.6 on a dual 2.3 GHz PowerPC G5, 2 GB RAM running OSX 10.4.11 , 2 Graids for storage.

    1) I get audio playback in the timeline but no video playback. I can scrub through the footage but don’t get playback. Audio plays for 3-5 seconds then cuts out. I also see no movement of the timeline cursor. There is nothing overlapping the S/R windows and they’re not positioned offscreen at all.

Reboots are the only thing I can figure that have worked to fix this.

    2) When Titling in the timeline, I often rename and save the newly generated title, and I am met with the ire-inspiring message and avid “bonk” error noise:

    >>>
File “filename.pict” can not be deleted because it is busy
    >>>

I’m saving the title media to my FW drives, but I think everybody does this. Does it have sthg to do with my bin arrangement? The naming of the title? The occurrence of this problem seems really haphazard.

    3)
when regenerating titles (due to data loss) I ran into repeated errors and bin issues while attempting. Upon my attempt, I’d get this message:

    >>>
    Did not complete title regeneration!
This may leave titles with incompatible resolutions in the sequence.
Incompatible titles will not play and other titles may play correctly.

    >>>

Stymied, I was essentially doing them one-by one, but when I clicked on a different bin (not my sequence bin) I seemed to have much better results in the re-gen actually working, although that too was inconsistent. I found myself basically regen-ing into one bin, then moving the titles out into a master title bin so that at each attempt, my new regen titles were essentially going into a clean bin each attempt. This seems like a silly an unnecessary workaround, anyone know why this might be the case?

Is there any rhyme or reason to these errors? maybe someone out there knows. Thanks in advance-

    Aaron
