Which plugin are we talking about here? Which version of Avid? What format & project type are you in?

This is soooooo old. The last developed version of the plug was in 2000. Avid has has a timecode effect built in since long ago. Unless you’ve got a super old version of Avid, look for the timecode effect under the Illusion FX category in your effects pallette.
This effect does require render before playback. Depending on your version of Avid, there was a project that developed a real-time version that looked a little rattier, but didn’t require rendering before playback. Let us know what U have…

its Avid Media Composer v2.7.2…and it wouldn’t surprise me if this in an ungodly old version. Their final cut is 4.5!

And the timecode effect I was using was the one placed under Illusion FX now that I have looked closer. But the problem is still there. However, after talking with the producer it seems I might only need 24 frames because there will be a film out at some point, which is 24 frames.

MC v3 comes with a whole new timecode effect that is real time, different timecode rates, miultiple windows, clip name, etc.
