I am a relatively new Avid user (recently switched from Premiere Pro), so please bear with me.

Yes, I have seen multiple postings on this issue but none seem to solve my problem concretely. The problem is similar – video freezes during playback but audio is fine and I can see the video when I scrub. This problem is intermittent and I have to reboot my system to fix it. Sometimes, even that doesn’t work. I have ensured that all drivers are current and that no other video player program is playing at the same time.

Equipment & SW: Avid DV 4.6, HP xw8400 – 3GHZ Quadcore Xeon, Quadro FX 1500, 4GB memory – with all the current drivers installed.

Why is Avid is so hard to get up and running? First, they tie you to all these hardware specifications and after all that trouble, I have still run into numerous start-up issues (many of which I resolved reading this forum). Even their sales organization seems to be poorly run – it took several phone calls to get someone who could help me upgrade to Xpress Pro (waiting for it come). I am not sure whether I had an individual bad experience – but I have been so disappointed with every contact I have had with Avid so far. Seems like a poorly run organization. How do they get away with so many technical issues that I see posted on this forum? Premiere Pro was so easy in comparison. (Sorry had to vent…)

Thanks for your help and advice in advance.

You say that your Nvidia drivers are current. That’s where I believe you should start. You need to make sure the driver is what’s certified (meaning tested) for your Avid version.
