In an effort to brush up on my Avid proficiency, I recently purchased a used Avid Meridien from a small post house.
Anyway, I haven’t installed a system since 2001 (I think) and am having trouble remembering what else I need to complete the installation
    The system specs are…
Avid Meridian Media Composer 9000 xl
    -Mac 1.2 GHz PowerPcG4 (1.2 GB SDRAM, 40 GB hard drive, OS9.2.2)
    -Avid Video Breakout Box
    -888 Audio I/O Box
    -PCI Extender
    -Avid Keyboard
    -3 Media Video Raid (291.2gigs)
    -Media Composer v10.6 dongle
My confusion regards hooking up the Avid components to the G4. Everything else I am fine on. But, I know I am missing cards for the G4, right now the only card Installed is the one for the monitors. What other ones do I need? Also, what corresponding cables do I need? Again, I have most of the cables for everything else.
I have also been unable to find replacement parts suppliers and I do not know exact names of the products to find them on eBay.
    Any insight?

You must have gotten this increadibly cheap as one can pick these up on ebay already operational for little to nothing.
It’s impossible to know what ya have and don’t have.
You are prolly best off hiring a local avid engineer for an hour or two. You can tear some stuff up with a trial and error approach.

It is operational, it simply needs a couple cards and the corresponding wires to connect the g4 to the avid peripherals.
I don’t need a tech I simply need to know where to purchase the necessary aforementioned items.
I did get it for cheap though, about the price of FCP(program only).

I haven’t had my hands inside an Avid since 2003 or so, but here’s some rusty free info:
If you have the PCI extender, chances are you already have the Avid cards in the extender. IIRC, the cards are the Avid DMB (digital media board) which has two connectors that look like the SCSI ones parallel to each other one marked M the other marked C (connect the BOB to the M); and the EDC card which has two db9 or vga connectors on it, covered with black plugs on most systems I’ve worked with. You’ll also have your Avid monitor card, for your edit side monitor, which connects to the DMB internally with a ribbon cable.
The card and cable you REALLY need to connect to the G4 is the PCI Extender card & cable. The plug on the card is pretty wide as is the thick ribbon cable that goes to the PCI Externder box.
Also, IIRC the ATTO Ultra SCSI card should go in the G4 directly – look on Avid’s site or inside the G4 for which PCI slot to put which card in.

    Good Luck!
