    Avid Approved Workstations

The 27th of february Avid published a new list
    with Avid qualified workstations.

One pc on the list, I think is perfect for me:
    HP XW4600 with Core 2 Duo 3.0GHz
Together with the Quadro FX570 the system runs fine,
    Avid declares on the list.

When you want to order this system there’s a lot of
work to do. You have to purchase the FX570 seperately
and assemble it yourself. And a lot of questions remain:
what about IEEE1394? What about a media card reader?

It is very hard to get advice about this kind of systems.

To make it easier HP advertises with a XW4600 bundle (BPW437ET),
very complete and very attractive in price.

A few questions about using Avid on workstations:

    1) Would it be risky to buy this HP-bundle XW4600 BPW437ET
with no FX570 in it but FX1700,
    with no E6850 3.0Ghz but E6750 2.66GHz,
and then run Avid Xpress Pro without problems?

    2) Is there another system you can recommend (about 2000 Euro)?

    3) Where to get serious advice about HP-workstations?

    Thanks AT

    Angela –
this is not a lot of work to do, when purchsing an “AVID Qualified” workstation. Every authorized AVID reseller carries these computers, and would be more than happy to sell you one, without you having to do any work. The only time you have to “work” to figure out what you need, is if you want to go to a “computer discount internet mail order company”, so you can get a discounted price, compared to the authorized AVID reseller.

HP is a wonderful company, an the HP workstation support group is excellent.

To echo Bob’s comments, buy from an authorized reseller. Not only do you save yourself alot of headaches, you get peace of mind. You know it will work out of the box. If you live fairly close to an authorized reseller, you have support as well.
