  The Ring FX – Television distorts

  Would anyone have any advice on creating an effect similar to what was used so successfully in ‘The Ring’ (US version) where all of a sudden something within the frame distorts like an image on a TV when the signal is interfered with producing a flicker or even a de -interlacing type distortion. Tools available to me are Avid Xpress Pro or AE. Thanks.

  You would have to cut a matte to constrain the effect, but Boris Continuum Complete has distressed video effects like BCC Scanline and BCC Damaged TV. I just used them full frame in a project I’m working on.
