  bitmaps

  hi,

  this must be pretty basic, but i can’t find a clou in the forum.

  i need to produce some bitmaps for a broadcaster, working on avid.
  It’s a european pal 16/9 project, shot in 16/9.

  No i did some tests, squeezing a 1024×576 bitmap to 720×576 works fine, but i would rather deliver 1024×720 and let the avid do the squeezing.
  Can that be done ?
  What other specific size can i use.
  What setting are needed ?

  Photoshop does it with it’s nonsquare pixel simulation, but when you save it as a bitmap it are indeed 720 pixels So data is lost anyway.
  When you think about it: this way digital 16:9 is such a waste of pixels. Optical anamorphing is different.

  Anyway, there must be someone who knows how to do this ?

  Jan,
  You don’t get it. SD video is ALWAYS 720 x 576 (in PAL)
  Avid can do the scaling (bear in mind either AVID or you also has to set the levels. I suspect you also are not aware of CCIR 601 specs…)

  Avid can do a fine job on importing full RGB 1024 x 576 images, but latest versions have a turkey in the input settings buttons. You have to set the aspect ratio to ‘601/709 non-square’ to get it right.
  (where the ‘maintain and Resize, square’ ‘should’ be the correct option.)

  But a photoshop action and batch gets the job done in no time…
