    Hi,
I have a project spring of next year, which I will be editing an HD multicam show on the Avid Symphony… Last time I worked on a Symphony was in 2003, so a lot has happened since then. I usually work on Avid Media Composer as a freelancer, and from my studio I work/own heavily on FCP Studio and Avid Xpress Pro for offlines. In spring, I want to go to the Avid Symphony and now my way arround with no hesitations… This is a very important client, so I really want to be confortable editing on a Symphony…

    Questions:

I was thinking of buying the Avid Media Composer software to familiarize myself with the interface and tools thinking that the Avid Symphony will be very close (interface/tools)… Is this true?

    Is it a good idea?

Any comments and suggestions are truly appreciated,

    Thanks

Media Composer and Symphony have very similiar UI.

If you know MC you will be fine, just need to find the extra bells and whistles on the Symphony.

you’ll find they are the same. Literally.
symphony, MC and Xpress are from the same code. They just removed some features and offered a smaller price tag with xpress. Prolly why it has nobody on it’s development team.
More accuratly, when they killed Symphony and Media Composer for what they now call Symphony and Media composer, they just took their xpress software and hacked in some animatte, ect, charged waaay too much for and now spend their time shrugging as people ask what happened.
    in short, you’ll be fine.
