  DS Nitris to Mac AE and Back

  Hi guys; Standard Def uncompressed spots cut and color corrected on a Nitris at another facility. They will export the color corrected clips and we will do some effects in AE on Macs, render them out and get them back to the Nitris for final output.

  What are the ideal export settings from the Nitris? What codec will the Nitris export? Is it one of the Avid uncompressed codecs?

  On the Mac side we are using CS3 and have our head around the new video I/O settings, at least within our FCP to AE and back workflow.

  But we are having trouble with the Nitris to Mac AE and back….getting very odd color/gamma shifting. Could be their exports (tried Animation codec etc) but haven’t been successful, so we are looking for someone who has done it successfully and could basically guarantee a digital color match going back and forth.

  Hi Rich.
  Yes, a quicktime with an uncompressed Avid codec is cool. I still use the uncompressed meridien codec. Avid sees it as a fast import.
  You will notice that brightness shift on every quicktime movie, no matter what codec ya use. I don’t know the cause of it. I know it’s not there with 601 image sequences, although they are not always possible. I hate to admit it but I allow for it at the top of the clip then fix it with a color effect and quick dissolv. Sounds bogus ad hacky but thats what I do. I often find it to be the perfect place for a sapphire glow. lol
