I have been asked to do hourly avid training. I wanted to ask your opinion on what to charge for that sort of thing. I would be going to their office and teaching boris, ae, and avid.
    Thanks

    Lauryn,
I’m sorry to see that you haven’t had much response on this yet.

Not counting travel costs, I’ve seen a range between $125 to $225 per hour for in-person individual instruction, depending on the software, location, instructor, etc. Having said that, I personally wouldn’t charge by the hour, only by the day or half day.

The again, I’ve stopped by a friend’s office on the way home and provided informal NLE instruction for no more of a price than the good feeling I get form knowing I helped.

I’m moving more and more towards getting web-based instruction, and while it still doesn’t offer that immediate back-and-forth like you get with a real instructor, I’m pleasantly surprised by the quality vs. the cost. For instance, at about $130 for six hours of Boris RED training, it’s MUCH less expensive than in-person instruction, and the bonus is that since I don’t have to be away from the office, I can stop to work on a pressing project, if necessary.

Hopefully, some of the pros from places like Future Media Concepts or Avid themselves can chime in and offer additional perspectives on this.

    -Tim

I just charge my regualr hourly rate (which is now down to 100 an hour). I see no need to mark it up or down. Still me, my time and my gear. If I had my rathers, I’d train more than meet deadlines.
