    Hi.

I posted this on the Final Cut forum – thought I would try an Avid forum as well.

We are working with an Avid editor and want to media log b-roll for him. We don’t have Avid Media log for OS X, and when we try to run Avid Express DV on our G4s the system freezes.

I have done this with FCP. A guy from doculink once sent me an excel spreadsheet and I was able to media log on that and then import it into my FCP project to digitize. Do you know of a way I could do this with Avid? If not, perhaps you could refer me to someone who might.

Someone from Video Tool Shed recommended their Universal Logging software. Anyone have experience with this? Is this the best way to go?

    Thanks,

    Amanda

well, the guy was me 🙂
Best way to check out if it works for you is just run the demo.
It’s fully functional except you’re only allowed 8 clips on export.
you’re always welcome to contact me direct if you have specific questions.
As for the conversion, it’s really not difficult once you’ve seen both file formats. They are just plain text (ignore the extension or rename to .txt). Any word processor can edit them, you just have to convert between tab delim text and tables.

    Hi Bouke,

Thanks again for your reply. I checked out the software but I had a couple q’s.

1)Will this work if we are logging from dvd’s which will be playing on the same computer from which we will be logging?

    2) I was unclear what you meant about the conversion. Do you mean to say that we would have to convert our medialog to a text file in order to export to avid? Or do we export as is? And what is tab delim?

    Thanks for your expert advice,

    Amanda
