We’ve got 1 lone Avid editor in house, works on Xpress Pro (4.8.2 on mac, upgrading to 5.5 soon). Feature film project is coming in…. I learned my chops on Avid, but have been a Final Cut editor and assistant for the last 4 years so am a little out of the loop.

Are there are major issues with Xpress Pro and feature editing? 30fps cutting vs 24fps cutting? keycode and change lists? etc, etc… My first instinct is that it will work fine. There are no major effects or anything fancy, just cuts and dissolves.

    thanks in advance!

All that should be fine – Xpress Pro has the same database, and cut list tool that is used on all the major features – many features have been cut on Xpress Pro so you wouldn’t be the first. Just keep in mind that change lists are only for 23.976 and 24 frame based projects, not for 30i with matchback. The +/- 1 frame adjustments for the 24/30 conversions would be creating changes on every event.
