  • Total FCP to AVID conversion?

Have any of youz guys ever worked on a project that started on FCP? I don’t mean to just do an online of a finished offline using Automatic Duck to convert the sequence to Avid, I mean change the entire project over to an Avid on a PC. I know the auto duck with translate the sequence, but what about all the bins and clips? And especially, what about the media? You can’t use the Mac drive with the PC, so you’d have to transfer the media to a PC drive, right? Would you have to export all the media as OMFI files? Can FCP do that? Does the auto duck work well? Bottom line, what would be involved with this total transfer from FCP to Avid on PC?

    Thanks,

    Chaz S.

Chaz, I’ve done this with the duck but it was about a year and a half ago. Then it was pretty seemless and everything we did came over to the Avid. Media had to be re-captured though.

Scott’s right. Media has to be recaptured unless you want to do a lot of clip modifying… https://www.automaticduck.com/pefcp/media/

And there is no wholesale project conversion. So you need to either export your bins to FCP shot logs for Sebsky Tools to convert to ALE files, or toss all of your clips into a sequence then use Automatic Duck’s Pro Export FCP to send the sequence out as an OMF.
