    Hi,

I’ve always used an XL1 as a deck. Not perfect I know, but it’s always worked. Until now.
I”ve read how difficult the XL1 has been for many as a deck but I’ve come across something I’ve not read anywhere and perhaps someone can shed some light.

I’m getting “dropped timecode” and “media timed out” messages which are making it impossible to capture anything.
I’ve seen this before (not that I hvae a solution but at least I know I’m not alone.)

What’s new is that when the break happens, the AVID stops recognising the deck and so does Windows!

Even if I turn the XL1 on and off and AVID is closed Windows XP (SP2) won’t recognise my camera as being attached.

Windows XP will only recognise my camera again if I do a full shut down. A restart doesn’t help at all.

Does this give anyone any insight into why I can no longer use my XL1 as a deck? I would dearly love to fix this problem.

Many thanks for any tip as to how I can get up and runnign again.

Sorry for the overuse of the old exclamation there.

Just politely jumping up and down looking for some light to shine on my problem.

Borrow someone elses deck or camcorder. Try capturing with that. If it works fine, then the problem is your XL-1. Get it serviced.

If the problem persists, you have to start looking at reinstalling your Avid Software and/or OS.

try deleting all decks from your deck configuration and then reload em. Let it autoconfigure and see if that doesn’t fix it.
Firewire is still pretty funky in the Avid world.
