    Hi to all AVID enthusiast,

I am currently setting up an avid express pro suite. The version is 5.6 and the dealer told me that it can handle HD projects and edit HD footages. Its limitation falls on not being to digitize HD since it has no input for that. HD capturing option is reserved for the higher AVID suites.

Even with that limitation I’m still convinced it will work on HD since what I’m gunning for is a tapeless environment for production and post. I ‘ll be using the Panasonic AG HVX200 for shooting and will rely on P2 cards and hardrives for storage. Hard drives attachments of the camera has firewire capabilities for quick data transfer.

Can I get the opinions of AVID users who are working on the avid express suite and those already working on a tapeless production and post?

I don’t want to risk building a setup that won’t work so it’s better to get all the advice you can dish out.

Xpress Pro can edit HD footage, but capture is dependent on which HD format – DVCPRO HD can be captured directly over FireWIre, file based, as you mentioned can also be imported. Formats such as HDCAM and D5 use HD-SDI which needs the Adrenaline hardware and DNxcel board to capture. but once captured can be edited in Xpress Pro as well.
