  How to blend VHS footage with D1

  Hi all,

  A client of mine has delivered an edit for a TVC with a couple of shots that look as though they we grabbed from VHS. He doesn’t have access to the original, so I was wondering if anyone has any idea how I could try and clean up the VHS stuff to match.

  Right now i’m experimenting with unshark mask etc to make it less blurry. Any ideas ?

  The only other way if you can is to go the other way; grunge it up, deinterlace, apply a MovieLook filter, etc. I did that on a job and the client thought it was all sourced from DigiBeta and grunged deliberately!

  If it doesn’t have to be full screen sometimes scaling it down can help.

  I have to agree with Peter 100%. Make it look like the bad quality is intentional.

  Thx for the replies guys.. As I had expected there was no “quick fix”..

  In the end I windowed the vhs footage and repeated them which the client loved.
