I have a commercial shot and edited in HD. I have paint effects, titles, timewarps, and color correction. I now need to downconvert to SD to output via firewire to tape on a Panasonic SD93. I have never tried this before so I am stuck. I tried changing format from 1080i to 30i, but I cant digital cut. The Avid said to transcode, I did, still wont digital cut. I exported a QT reference, used sorenson squeeze to convert to Avid QT Meridien at 1:1, reimported back into my HD project, and created a new sequence. Transcoded again, finally worked, although I am not completely satisfied with the results. Is there an “easyier” way to make SD versions of HD sequences for broadcasting?

You have the live component and SDI outputs for output in real time from the HD to SD. FireWire needs to be transcoded as you mentioned. There is no reason why the SD transcoded sequence cannot be digital cut. I would start there in the troubleshooting.

I wish I had a deck with HDSDI. After I posted it dawned on me maybe not everything transcoded. Like I missed a setting and did not transcoded the audio in the sequence or i need to relay the clips. I will have to look at it again. I need to go to DVC-Pro 25 for final distribution, but the one deck we have is only firewire. I could go to Beta with component.

You need to make sure you transcode picture and sound – try again and let us know.

Looks like it kinda worked. I was able to play from the timeline to 1394, but it still would not let me digital cut. I applied a 16:9 mask to return the video to the correct aspect ratio. For most of the timeline it is fine, but at points the letterboxing gets blurry and jumps up and down. Almost like some kind of interlaced issue. I only rendered the mask, not the effects below. would that cause the jumping?
