    Hi!!

Im new to editing and have worked on Avid media composer software only and FCP. It seems like most software companys are joining forces with FCP. Now with the Multibridge from Blackmagic deck link that can switch between SD/HD what is the advantage of this. I really like avid media composer and would like to have SD/HD as well but Multibride does not work with avid. is there a way i can get this feature without spending $50,000

    Any help would be great.

AVID Adrenaline HD is $25,000, not $50,000.

The Multibridge Extreme is $2595, but you still need all the other stuff for your FCP system that you would on an AVID, like a computer, monitors, disk drives, tape machines, audio mixer and speakers, etc.

You can buy the Mojo SDI for AVID Media Composer software Only, and this will take in HDV only, not HD-SDI. If you want to know how you can do uncompressed HD (or DNxHD 220) on an AVID system with HD-SDI, for the same price as the Multibridge Extreme – this is the answer –

    YOU CAN’T.

Bob, I know you know this. You just forgot to mention that with Media Composer, you are not limited to just HDV. Any tapeless format can be ingested, and any FireWire based format can be ingested. So besides HDV, you can ingest DVCPro 100 HD, as well as XDCAM, and P2.

With the Mojo SDI, you can of course do all the SD resolutions via analog and SDI. All you are giving up is uncompressed HD, and real-time DNxHD transocding. You also wouldn’t have an HD-SDI output or input. You could however, use a 2nd or 3rd monitor to watch HD in full res via a DVI port of the video card for preview. The Mojo will allow you to preview realtime down-converted HD to an SD monitor.

So you really have to ask yourself exactly what camera and format you actually plan to use. XDCAM or P2 is no problem at all. DVCPro 100 and lower, also not a problem. Media Composer with Mojo SDI is a pretty good setup.
