  ._file names

  Whenever we transfer a QT movie from the Mac to our Avid (PC) we get 2 files on the Avid: the actual file and a ._filename file… This is sometimes confusing to our editors and the folders get cluttered with useless files. I think it’s from the Mac end… Is there some way that we can eliminate the extra file?

  These are just data files that show up when you go from mac to pc. They’re hidden on macs, but for some reason they accompany the quicktimes and show up in the pc windows. Your editor should just ignore them, and if they’re unable to do that, tell them to delete the files.

  I get them all the time on my flash drive when I bring quicktimes from mac to pc…

  The extra files show up on just about everything, not just QuickTimes.

  I delete them or have my folder view set to arrange by type so they are not in the way of the “real” files.
