    hello,

i have avid xpress pro on my desktop as well as my laptop. can someone give some advice or leads on how to correctly share/security the drives which hold the media as well as the OMFI MediaFiles folder? i have the media on on my desktop. i then open up the project on my laptop and sometimes i can see the media and other times they are offline? it seems as the way i have them shared/security the media appears to show up at times and not at others?? im not sure if im doing something incorrectly or when windows starts up it re-configures something??

    drive
the drives shared with “full control”
the security for the drive set to “full control”
under advanced the entries are set to “not inherited”

    OMFI MediaFiles folder
i tried “not shared” & “shared”
security for the folder is set to “full control”
inherited from “D:\” or whatever the drives is that im on.

this is the configuration that seemed to work last. i did not work from my laptop for a while and then went back to that workflow and now laptop does not see the media on desktop??

any advice/leads will be greatly appreciated!

    thanks!

thanks! i have already tried this. i think it has something to do with the actual sharing of the drives from my desktop and not the avid application itself. the reason i believe this is because, i make QT ref movies that live on drives on my desktop computer and when everything is working, networking, etc properly i can view the QT ref movie from my laptop by just clicking on it. when things are not working correctly when i click on the QT ref movie that lives on a drive in my desktop from my laptop i get an error message saying that it cannot find the media?? thanks for you advice! i really appreciate any and all advice or leads!

    thanks!

clutching at straws but since no-one else seems to be offering – when you export qts I presume you tick the “use network adressing”(this isn’tthe wording but I’m not in front of a machine at pres… when you move drives from one machine to another there are instances when windows applies a new drive letter to external drives if they conflict with other drives, is it poss that differant drive letters have been applied to drives since you first made the qt references, hence qt failing to reference to the media since it is looking at an incorrectly lettered drive?

Try this: open the console in AXP on the laptop and type alldrives 1
This should enable Avid to use a network drive as a media drive, and you should be able to access your media again.
You may need to mount or hit the network drive before launching AXP…opening a folder on the drive should do.
