So the news department bought a newscutter a while back and its primary function is to collect dust and take up space. Without much research, someone purchased the Panasonic SD93 with it and connected it to a Mojo with Firewire. In theory it should have worked, but eventually nearly every reported was stopping into the creative department to ask me what was wrong. Eventually I just stole the deck and hooked up to our Adrenaline. After a few weeks of fumbling, i discovered the same problem on both systems. Apprently, the deck and the system loose video lock and after one or two digital cuts, the deck will get these glitches randomly. Like a digital mosiac. I dont know the technical term, but the only way to solve the issue is to turn off the deck and back on. Is this a DVC-Pro firewire issue, or is there some setting somewhere i missed? Avid as no idea (go figure). Oh, i do have audio locked.

How old is the deck? Sounds like you might have the Panasonic cap problem, where the capacitors would start drying out…

Less than one year. It was doing this on Newscutter, too. we just could not see it since there was no monitor hooked up to the composite out. We have one for it on the Adrenaline.

    Hi,

Okay, so let’s get a little more specific. Are you running the deck in DVCPRO or DVCPRO50? Are you working in Firewire or SDI as your video source. How are you controlling the machine? Have you fed any reference signal to the machine, which if you are controlling it with RS422 and using SDI, you should always have a reference signal.

What is the Mojo doing for you? Is that a Mojo SDI or the 1394 variety?

    Best,

Ah! We are running it as DVC-Pro. I am not sure why they bought a 50 deck and I know what you are thinking, “why buy a Mojo?” Good question. I hypothesize that the engineers and the news director really did not too much research into the system. But I its a Mojo with Firewire, no SDI. Also, the deck has no input for a reference signal. It is barebones. Just firewire port and a composite out. I am feeding the Firewire into the Adrenaline BOB. My current theory is to bypass the bob and just feed the firewire into a 1394 card.

Okay, so have you connected any other firewire device up to this same system and have had success?

If so, then let’s take a look at how you have the internal menus set up on the SD93. Also look at the set up on control in the Avid.

For the Setup on the 93, look at the 800 series menus and let me know how they are set there.

Also when was the last time this machine had a tape run all the way through and no stopping. Sometimes if a machine sits and collects dust, it isn’t very happy, try a ff and rw on a couple of tape, to give ia bit of a workout. Then try a cleaning tape.

    Next, 😉

I haveing the same oroblem on my Xpress Pro. I use the mac version 4.8.4. I’m using Keyspan for the RS422 remote and loading composit into the mojo. My digibeta, Beta SP and DVCAM deck run fine. But the DVCPro deck won’t work. There are a menu in the DVCPro deck whit changes the 422 protocol so when you auto-configure the deck, AVID thinks is a sony BVW 75, but that don’t help.

Every time i try to capture AVID says: “Capture aborted due to discontinuity in timecode”
It’s only capturing 12-20 frames before it stops.

The deck are a Panasonic AJ-SD93E whit SDI and analog option boars.

I have also tryed to remove the mojobox and use the deck whit firewire, bu the result are the same.

What can i do? I don’t want to by a new DVCPro deck, I have use the deck for 2 year whit decklink and FCP whit no troble.

I supervised the installation of the Adrenaline, so since then I fairly certain that it has never had any other DV device hooked up to it. I think we did with HVX-200 we demo’ed but I cant remember. I had spoke with avid about this and they did tell me to be sure audio id locked. the 800 series settings are:

    804 Blank Line Blank
    880 Dif Speed S100
    881 Dif Type Auto
    882 Dif In CH Auto
    883 Dif Out Ch Auto
    886 Dif Config Auto
889 Dif Au In Ch 1&2
890 Dif Aud Out Ch 1&2
    891 Dif DV Aud Lock48

I can try the FF & RW but it usually gets a fair work out each day. Searching for footage and through master tapes to find old commercials. I should point out, that whenever I activate the digital cut tool or the capture tool, I can hear the Adrenealine clicking from SD mode into DV mode and there is a slight hang up for a couple seconds. I suppose I can stay in DV mode on the Adrenaline?
