    Hello,

Your name was mentioned in another thread and I am hoping you can help me. I am rather desperate to find a solution quickly.

I need to capture some material shot with a varicam at 720 P 30 fps with our 1200 A deck.

My project is 1080i 60 using mostly HDV 1080i material. My final project will be knocked back down to 720p for broadcast so I do have to make capture at 1080i if the my project will accept by either native capture or transcoding.

I have been struggling to find the right deck setting to make it work.

Can you please help me with the deck and AVID settings. Many of the threads I have found look promising but then go down a different path, usually about 24 fps material.

    Thanks in advance for reading..

    Dave

The problem with Varicam is that it records 720/59.94P regardless of the frame rate set in the camera. The (cranked) frame rate exists in only the metadata, and it is up to the edit system to interpret the metadata correctly.

I have tested the Varicam recordings with the DS Nitris, and that system does read the metadata from the Varicam. I do not know if the same is true for Adrenaline, Xpress Pro HD or Symphony Nitris.

Panasonic makes a frame rate converter that lets you make a dub with the frame rate dialed into the Varicam.

Hey guys, I talked to several AVID people at NAB about this, and basically the Xpress Pro HD takes in the 720p but only recognizes the metadata that is flagged at 24fps. If you shoot at another frame rate you will need the panasonic frame rate converter, which by the way is an awesome box. We’ve used it for our ESPN stuff and it worked really well.

    Hope this helps.
