24 timecode to 30 For AutoDuck To Avid
All,
A feature film was half-offlined on Final Cut, and will now need to transition entirely to an Avid Media Composer. Automatic Duck works extremely well in these scenarios except for the fact that Final Cut and Avid differ enormously in one critical area: Avid treats standard definition sources as 30 frame sources in terms of *timecode* (not in terms of frames captured and digitized), whereas Final Cut treats standard def sources as 24fps timecode, even though there really isn’t any such thing as 24fps *timecode* in standard def. Yes, software allows us to edit in true 24 with 24 **frames** per second, but video standards – i.e. machinery such as VTRs, reference, deck control etc – still require 30 in standard def.
I realize that this is an Avid forum, but perhaps someone out there has bumped into this and has some experience with this problem. Is there anyway to “convert” the master clip timecode standard within Final Cut to 30TC from 24TC so that when Automatic Duck converts, the timecode of the eventual master clips within Avid lands as 30TC?

Is there anyway to reimport FLX files via Cinema Tools to create new master clips with a new timecode standard of 30TC and then “merge” that new timecode info with existing cuts. Probably not possible considering that non-linear editing systems in general just don’t work this way. But this should give you a sense as to where my thinking lies…
Note: the intention is not to change the project **type** as we will continue to cut in standard def 23.976 NTSC on the Avid. The intention is to **only** change the timecode standard from 24 to 30 even though we will continue to edit in a true 24 project.
