Double system audio: syncing picture and audio
I come from a film scoring background and am currently studying marrying picture and audio in editing as part of getting a better understanding of the entire sound post production. Since Avid is often used for film editing and handles BWF files, I thought I’d try to see if someone can answer my questions here..
Suppose you recorded audio on a film shoot using a HD audio recorder recording to BWF-files timestamped from its internal TC running at 30 fps Time Of Day. A timecode slate is jamsynced from the audio recorder.
How does an (assistant) editor sync the telecine dailies with the original audio BWF files recorded by the HD audio recorder?
Will he use the visual timecode on the timecode slate on the dailies (running at 29.97 fps after telecine) to create some sort of 29.97 audio timeline/aux TC track and autosync the imported BWF files with this TC track? Or maybe use the FLEX-file from the telecine for this (if it contains audio TC)? Also, Time Of Day TC is discontinuous and would be all over the place. So do editors sync dailies on a take to take basis and then copy to a new project or can you have a
