My company is shooting an infomercial next week in HDV or DVCProHD (don’t know which format yet) and would like to skip downconverting at a dub house. They asked me to do some research into a new workstation that can handle HD natively and they would like to stay in the Avid world. I have found that the Avid Mojo does not have an HD SDI output (or a plain SDI output) capability, which tells me the footage wil have to be downconverted at somepoint. Seeing as they have an Avid Symphony already, would it be wise to invest in a Xpress Pro workstation or would it be easier to downconvert from the camera or a deck into the Symphony (if that’s possible). If they were to invest, what would be the advantages/disavantages of having a new workstation if all I’m getting is the same analog component output that the Symphony offers.

    Thanks for your help.

    Matt
