No capture option in Xpress Pro

Your posts are very helpful.
I am trying to capture telecined film into xpress pro. I am using firewire and rs-422 control. My problem is that the capture option is not highlited.
Is this because I have set up the specs incorrectly. I set it up as 24p from a 30fps dv tape. I also changed the audio from 49… or 47… to 48khz. Is that where I went wrong?
Should I be setting it up as a 23.976 project with 29.97/48khz sound?
And advice would be very much appreciated.

You can’t capture in a 24p project over FireWire because the digital audio is at 48kHz to 23.976/29.97 video. 24p projects expect KHz audio for true 24.000fps picture.
You can use a Mojo to bring in picture and analog audio as 28:1p and the analog audio process takes care of the .1% audio sampling.
If you want to keep everything digital you need to be in a 23.976 project type, but keep in mind that only Xpress Pro 5.1 and later, currently available for Windows only can reverse telecine the 2:3 pulldown on the fly over FireWire and it maintains your digital audio at 48kHz. You can capture on Xpress Pro Windows, or Adrenaline or Meridian basted systems and move project, bins, and media to your version of Xpress Pro on Mac.

I have successfully captured. It had to do with the sample rate conflict.
New question and problem. I do not have the MOJO. So it seems that I cannot output via firewire in a 23.976 project. Is this correct? It doesn’t even offer me the “enable dv outut” option. Is this true? Do I need a MOJO to do this?
I have now set up a 30i matchback project. It allows me to output via firewire. Are you familiar with matchback and would you rely on it?

With all versions of Xpress Pro less than v.5, you need a Mojo to output back to NTSC. This is because it adds the 2:3 insertion to create a true NTSC 59.94 field signal. On version v.5 and later, this is done in the host. So yes, you need a Mojo to output to NTSC or export a QT ref into After Effects, render in a 2:3 pulldown and import back into a 30i project.
If you created a 30i project (29.97i) you can certainly edit in a matchback mod. Make sure you selected “Matchback” when creating the project. Many films have been done this way. A conform in DS or linear suite will need to be done via EDL. EDL’s as with cutlists will be adjusted +/-1 frame at any one cut point to maintain overall audio sync.
