Quick Shout Out – any Denver Metro area Avid Users? Thinking about starting a Avid/Motion Graphics user group, which could meet at either KUSA 9News or another location further south.

    Any takers?

How about us ‘southerners’? I’m in Colorado Springs – I’d be interested. It’d be nice to play hooky from work for a day!

I’m down with that. We need to be a dying breed of late. Or so it would seem.

    I would be interested also.
I am in the downtown Denver area.
In late September 2005, I received an email from:

    Brenda Bergin
    User Group Manager
    Avid Technology, Inc.

    Brenda_bergin@avid.com

    Regarding a Denver users group.
I haven’t heard anything more, but maybe she has something in the works.

I actually have already responded to Brenda about this, and expressed my interest in running the User Group. There’s one drawback in that I don’t think there’s enough Users (MC, XPress & D|S) to support JUST an Avid User Group.

However, starting a Motion Graphics Group that focuses on EDITING and GRAPHICS, independent from a particular app would probably draw enough interest and industry support to be feasible. I’d definitely focus a segment per meeting on “All things Avid”, but I’d also bring in some motion graphic and 3D tools, as well as “art and craft” segments.

When I proposed this to Brenda, here’s the response:

“That sounds like a great idea. We often participate in groups that are not strictly Avid User Groups. One is the Editor

Beyond venue / advertisers, there’s always the crux of editor hours and working professionals coming in to play. Last time I remember someone trying this, the calendar really became a factor as far as people showing up. Just something to consider – don’t want to be Debbie Downer or anything…..
