Avid Xpress DV — 2 questions **please help!**
Hello all,
First off, I use a media composer at work and xpress DV at home…so I am pretty familiar with AVID. I can’t figure out 2 things,
First, I can’t get to the “gang” source and record button. The owners manual says it is in the command palette (the manual is for Xpress DV and Pro) Is this a feature only available on the pro version? It says in the book when there are differences between the two versions, but it says nothing about this only being for Pro.
Second, my trim buttons don’t work at all…(the 10 and 1 frame buttons)
Other than these two problems, I love it, does great for home videos and fun music videos…Has anyone ever had these problems?
I am running it on my Toshiba 2.4 Ghz (celeron) 1G-ram Machine

Check that the functions are mapped to the correct keys in the keyboard settings. As I recall, when I began using Xpress Pro, I needed to remap a few functions to match my keyboard.

Are you talking about the > & >>? Lasso the cut you want to slip (right to left, starting outside of the timeline). It’s different from the MC, but the principles are the same…

I have checked my keyboard settings, and it is not mapped to any keys…and when I go into my command palette to map it to a key, it is unavailable…the manual says it is on the “other” tab.

That is exactly what I am talking about…and your suggestion worked perfectly…in MC, you don’t have to enter a trim mode to do that “slip” function…but apparently in Xpress DV you do. I have tested and it works like a charm…gives me inside rollers and slips the clip. THANK YOU!! It was driving me crazy!
Any idea on the extend function? My friend has Xpress Pro and that button is on the “other” tab in his command palette…so I am assuming that is a function of Pro and not DV. *which sucks!*

You can also enter trim mode, then right click and a menu containing slip and slide mode will be available to you.
As for extend mode, this is only available in Xpress Pro.
