    Hello,

I am new to the Creative Cow community and want to say a big hello! I’ve been reading the tutorials and browsing the forums for about a year now and have finally set out on my own to begin my editing and graphic arts career. My question is, what would be a good 4-8 channel mix board for my Media Composer set up? I am looking for something “inexpensive” and I can grow out of as i grow as an editor and need more and more channels. Any advice on the subject would be helpful.

    Thanks,

    J

You’ll get as many different responses to this as there are COW readers. But the Yamaha MG line seems to be solid. We use the older line and I’ve been happy with it.

Ask yourself why you need a mixing board. Are you laying in narration into your Avid or an audio program? Do you have multiple sources you want to get into your system? If you are just starting out, get something you’ll use the heck out of (memory, storage space, After Effects, a fancy edit chair). Then when you have the need, get a mixing board. Anything from Yamaha, Mackie, Behringer (among others) will work great.
