JVC HDV to Media Composer
Can you capture from a JVC GY HD100U to Media Composer 2.8? I can’t get the input device to be recognized.

Have you ever captured from this device before? Have you tried turning on the camera before your system? If you have a Mojo, don’t use the same FW port the Mojo is using.

I haven’t captured from the device before. I tried different combinations of turning things on first, but I’m not sure if I quit the entire program and started it with the camera running already.
That’s a dirty trick if it’s the solution!
My device list had JVC GY-HD100U 50 and JVC GY-HD100U 60. And I don’t know what the 50 or 60 means for starters. But it DOES seem to mean my camera is compatible.
Don’t have a mojo box or any box. It’s going from Camera through firewire to computer.

It’s probably an indicator for PAL or NTSC.
Another question is… what format is the footage shot in? (ie, 720p/30, 720p/24, etc)

When you create a new project in MC, do you get the option to select 720p/24 HDV?
I did a project a while back that was 720p/24 HDV shot on the same JVC camera and MC wouldn’t digitize it over firewire, I was using MC2.8. I ended up purchasing HDVxDV (Mac Only I believe), connected the deck to that and captured. HDVxDV created .m2t files that I was then able to convert to QT files at DNx145 that I was then able to import into a 720p/24 (non-HDV) project in MC.

Wow. What a process. It’s awesome that we’re using the same camera and program version. Then I know exactly what I have to do!
But yeah, There was an option for 720p 30 HDV and then there were options for 720p 24 (without the HDV after it) so I tried one of each. The first one didn’t make sense because it just wasn’t in 30. The second one wasn’t allowing for the right resolution to pull it in at. One of the two only allowed DVCPro 50. Neither of them has the right resolution to choose.
So since I’m running it on a PC and can’t get the program, my next question would be will it work on MC 3? Because I may just get that one to bypass this whole problem.

Guys, any news on this?
I am contemplating moving on from Premiere Pro (which captures and edits all flavors of JVC HDV just fine) to either Avid or FCP, and I really see advantages of Avid. But no support for all JVC ProHD modes was a dealbreaker. I need mainly 720/25p to work flawlessly.

I think the decision was that Avid 3 would work with it, but I haven’t gotten it yet to find out.
