I am needing to mask out a piece ov video in a particular shape. How do I get to create custom shaped masks in Avid? Is there a pen tool or something similar I should be lookging for? Thanks fellow bovines.

    Good day Justin,

In your effects palette you have 2 options, you can go into key and choose animatte to create a garbage matte or you can go into image and choose paint effect. Either one of these can do the trick, it just depends on what you want to do.

You can also create a black and white image in the Title Tool (simple shapes) or Marquee (complex shapes–use the bezier pen tool). Cut it above your video, remove the Title effect, add a matte key effect. Or cut it into the timeline, step into it and replace the fill with your video.

Animatte and Paint are much more elegant. Use Marquee or the title tool if you find yourself on an Xpress system (no Animatte or Paint).

    Michael.
