  • Exporting QT ref file

Posted by Rob Roams on October 20, 2006 at 8:46 pm

    Hello,
Every time I export a Qt ref. file it comes out poor quality, especially with motion. Can somebody please give me the settings to eport a QT reference file.
i’m trying to burn a DVD and the file, before i import it into my dvd ULEAD program, looks very poor and even after I burn the DVD it still looks bad. Any help would be great
    I’m running
    PC 2.6GHz
    1gb ram
    avid xpress HD
    And my Exporting settings are
    Digital Mastering
    RGB
    4:3 square pixel
    Use Avid DV codec

    THANK YOU

Try using 601 (instead of RGB) and native dimensions (instead of square pixels).

Also, could explain what you mean by ‘poor quality’?

Thank you, I will try these adjustments. Poor Quality – whenever there is a pan, the video gets this strobing look to it. ALso, the overall video looks like a windows media file, or some other kind of downloadable size file.

You’ll hear varying opinions on the matter, but I suggest mixing down your video and audio tracks before exporting your reference file. Your final sequence should be one video track and two audio tracks, with no filler in the timeline. Reference files don’t account for alpha channel clips and filler very well; without mixing down, your framerate won’t necessarily be 29.97 fps. I encode with either Sorenson or Adobe Encore. Before I started religiously mixing down sequences I got jittery, reverse-fielded looking video all the time. Also, QT ref files don’t necessarily play back smoothly in Quicktime. Now, I work in uncompressed SD video… if you’re using DV or other codec your mileage may vary.

Thank you for your help. I am working with DV. I will try mixing down the sequence and hopefully it gets the job done. Thank you again!!

    hi,
i’m having the same problem when converting a quicktime ref file.
i’m using procoder 2, and after 30-40 min of conversion i get an error that says: procoder detected stalling in the conversion possibly your source is no longer accseble.
another error i get: the movie file cant be found

a short description of the export process:
1 avid exprees pro, time line- export-quicktime ref
2 on temp folder, i get a wav file & the quicktime file with a mov ending
    3 pro coder-load-the mov file-dvd-elementry-2 pass- convert
4 encore software which build the dvd file
    5 nero software which burns

if i’m handalling a short movie 5-7 min, everything works fine.
i have a project of 50 min, and than i get the error masseges

    what seems to be wrong?

    yair
