I uploaded 2 images. One is a render test done within the 3DIP setup window (good shadows!).

The second image is in After Effects, using the comp camera (no shadows).

Clicking “update” has no effect. If I open up the setup window again, sometimes I find that “shadow casting” has been de-selected. Even when I re-select it and click “OK”, I still get no shadows in After Effects, whether I use 3DIP lights or comp lights. Any ideas? I really want these shadows!

    Hi Stan.

    Two things to check:
    1. When changing lights in the Set-Up window, it’s important to update the Lights once you’re back in AE.
    2. Make sure that “Use Comp Lights” is unchecked.

    See the image below:

If this is what you’ve done and it’s still not working, then please send me your project.
I only need the .aep file – no media files are necessary.

    Send files to: matt@zaxwerks.com

    I’ll take a look. Thanks.

Matt! Thanks so much for responding. I didn’t realize that there was a separate “update lights” button. I was thinking that simply clicking “update” would take care of it. When I did do it, I got a very odd result. After several attempts and adjustments, I punted on the entire layer in AE and deleted it. I had saved the scene in 3DIP and knew it would be easy to do over. Sure enough, when I applied 3DIP to a new layer and opened the saved scene, everything worked as advertised. Thanks for helping me solve this.

In order, the Update buttons are:
    – Update Cameras
    – Update Lights
    – Update Sets

The last button (red ball) opens the Set-Up window.

If you expect to use Camera, Light, or Set values that you modify in the Set-Up window,
be sure to click the appropriate button when you’re back in AE. We require these button presses
to get around a technical limitation with how we interact with After Effects.

Let us know if you have any other questions.
