    Running Invig 5. Great Upgrade.

One issue we are stumped on. Have a Football Helmet with plenty of polys. Have rendered it many time in 4.5.1 with no shading issues. But with V5, if I bump up the material brightness or specular settings to anything other than 0, we get a very ratty render, Lots of cube shading.

Tried to play with the “Hard Shading” options, but if set to anthying other than “File” say 40, it just crashes AE.

Running CS3/4 on Mac OSX 10.5.8 with Roaming Profiles with an Xsan install. Software on local box.

    posted rendered sample @ https://street-tree.com/images/invigshading.jpg

    Hi William.

There is a known bug regarding changing the Hard Shading Angle of imported 3D objects.
We’re working on a fix, and will let you know when one is ready.

In the meantime, are you able to re-export the football helmet with smoother normals baked in?

    Stay tuned.

Unfortunately Not. This is a purchased model . Have tried a few changes in Maya, but can;t find a right combination that fixes the shading. We’ll have to keep a version 4.5.1 on one machine till there is a solution.

Please keep us informed.. Happy to test anything.

    Matt:

    Found a workaround

Turn out the Model, as bought from Turbosquid, Opened in Maya and exported as a 3ds works perfectly.. Normals are correct, and even if I modify the, the Shading stays true to course.
But, If I open an AE Projects which has an Invigorator layer built in. that’s where the same model has shading issues.

So.. Open old file, select 3ds model and use Replace. May have to repo a bit, but it works and we are moving forward.
