Zaxwerks w/ Illustrator file
I am having trouble using an .ai file in ProAnimator. Everytime I open the .ai file in Zax it shows a solid rectangle with the logo cut out, as if it was a negative. I am not well versed in Illustrator or Zax. I am trying to help someone else out with this. I have downcoverted the .ai file to ai 8 and turning on “open by layers”, “Use Ill colors”, & “move obj to center”. I think the problem lies in how I created the LIVE TRACE of the logo. Any ideas?

Hi Stevem1928,
Tracing a logo using the pentool etc… is often more efficient then using the live trace features as you may end up having a bunch of unnecessary paths. Generally, your artwork must consist of simple closed shapes. Send me your file and I will trouble shoot it in the morning (It’s 3:00 am in NY, so I gotta go sleep now)

I was reading one of your other posts where you did that for someone. I was not able to follow how you helped him. I won’t be able to access the file until later today. Basically the logo is a very simple live trace of 7 letters. All of them are separate from each other, except for 2 letters touch just a bit and are joined together.

Hi Steve.
Your file had some extra elements in it, causing the problem.
Note that when using the Invigorator, it’s not about how the AI file looks
on screen, it’s about making sure that the only things in the file are the
outlines that you want imported. This is certainly part of the learning curve.

I am going to paste your email response here to help others.
This is one of those files that looks simple, but has
a bunch of extra stuff in it that confuses the Invigorator.Here’s what I did:
– I Released the Compound Path
– I Released the Crop Marks
– I Ungrouped the objects
– I deleted all of extra elements that weren’t necessary
(there were a lot of little duplicate objects)Once I did that, I ended up with just the outlines for the letters,
and it imports correctly. -
