    Hi All,

I should really have posted this in the AE forum, but as I religiously visit this forum daily, I rather prefer to consult you guys.
I have a P4 3.2G machine with 2GB RAM running Windows XP Pro. Plenty of HD space over 300 GB on several partitions
    I am using AE7 Pro.
My fundamental question is the following:

Does it really have to always take ages to render animations?

    As a basic test:

    I created a new project,
created a 5 seconds comp PAL D1/DV, Full resolution
added the Red Speed FFx Preset via Adobe Bridge i.e. File> Browse.

Hit RAM preview and it took 53 sec to render this 5 secs project, although, Under Edit > Preferences > Memory and Cache I set:
The Maximum Memory Usage to 120% of 2GB
Maximum Ram Cashe size to 70% = 1.4 GB
Maximum Disk Cache Size to 2 GB on another partition.

Imagine creating a 30 secs project at this rate!

    Is this normal?

    Thanks for your feedback..

    Regards

    Max

    Hi Max.

A minute for a 5 second preview does sound like a lot — but it depends on a few things:
    1. Is the layer with the effect set to Draft mode? If it’s not, try switching to Draft mode until you’re ready to do a final render
    2. How complex is your scene? If you’re applying an effect to an extraordinarily large image, the effect may take a while
to calculate, even if the image doesn’t look large on screen.

Are you using any Zaxwerks products in your scene? If not, then this question is probably best asked elsewhere.

From our perspective, we haven’t seen any rendering/processing slowdown in AE 7 vs. AE 6.5 (or 6 or 5).

    Good luck.

    Hi Matt,

    Thank you for your reply.
I have installed Gridiron software’s Nucleo and it has improved things when all other applications are closed.
The great Total Training AE7 videos series are opening my eyes and my mind… Lots to learn still but it is always a joy to sit in front of my system and see what I can come up with ;).

Yeah I do have Zaxwerks products, but my question was rather general, as you never get to know certain things in life until you actually question them..

    Thanks again..

    Max.
