Shooting a 2 hours + dance recital with the JVC GY-HM700U camcorder. Final product will be a standard definition DVD. I have shot at the 1280 X 720 resolution size in the past but never in full HD 1920 X 1080. Should I stay at the 1280 X 720 resolution considering edited material will be compressed for standard def DVD? And what about frame rate? 30p or 60p? Leaning towards faster rate because of the quick movements of dance. Final question, once again for dance, which bit rate is preferred? HQ or SP? I know choosing SP over HQ will give me more record time on the SDSHC cards but I’m more concerned with pristine image quality. I always selected HQ in the past for that reason.

Personally I would shoot it in 1080 60i. It will have smoother motion in “I” whereas “p” will be more strobe looking. If you want graceful and smooth shoot interlaced. There will be many who disagree with me but it has always looked better to me even after you burn it to a progressive DVD.
