  Capturing with the JVC BR HD 50 deck

  I would like to capture footage from this deck into FCP and would like to know if it does a downconvert from 720/30p to standard dv, through firewire. This footage will be for rough edit and base for caturing HD 1080i through component.

  If so, what are the setting in FC Pro? standard dv, I assume.

  The deck will not downconvert via firewire but will via analog i/o.

  If you have a Decklink or a Kona to capture the analog signal then you can do a DV first cut.

  Just as a follow up. I had the footage captured via a kona card to high def, DVC PRO HD and it is very nice, I then down converted from the timeline to 720×4800 for rough edit.

  Just in case anyone is wondering this deck does down convert 720p to 480i NTSC via firewire.

  The firewire port simply transfers the information from the tape. It does NOT get cross/downconverted. Only composite, component, and Y/C output is downconverted from a 720p tape. Maybe HDMI though I’ll have to look into that.

  Chris- have you actually digitized 720p as 480i via firewire? I’m 99 percent sure this is not possible.
