Newb advice for effects requirements
Hey Guys,
Apologies for this not being a direct AE question. I’d like to achieve the following effects with some DV footage
1. Make dv footage appear dark and dull (spooky)
2. Generate lightening over a movie a scene
3. Generate burning flames and then have a face slowly moving out of those flames towards the camera
I have Premier and AE at my disposal, can I achieve these things? Would anyone have time to point me in the right direction, e.g tool names, tutorials, flat out explanations!

1. Make dv footage appear dark and dull (spooky)
AE has several (tons) of image coloration effects. Some very similar to those in photoshop, and have the same name. Plus a bunch others too. It realy depends on what your trying to do, but chances are that yeah, AE can do this.
2. Generate lightening over a movie a scene
AE has 2 great lightening plug-ins. Lightening, and advaced lightening. Also can be used for other electricity effects.
3. Generate burning flames and then have a face slowly moving out of those flames towards the camera
For this, if you want realistic flames, you may need to get some stock footage of fire, geberate the flames in a nother program, like maya, particleIllusion, or any other program that does this sort of thing. If you don’t care for realism, you can play with the effect called particle Systems 2, directly in AE. Plus there are some 3rd party plug-ins for AE that do flames as well.
As far as moving things towards the camera, no big deal for AE, though the closer you move things, the more the image gets clody or pixelated, unless you add a blur – that’s not a limitiation on AE – that’s simple the way thigs get when you scale them larger than 100%.
