    Audio of two people talking (two lav mics) in a fairly noisy environment. They are generally talking one at a time, but there is occasional overlap. I’ve done as much noise reduction as I want to and I’ve been manually dropping (with keyframes) the audio of whoever is not talking by about 8dB. As this mic is only picking up room noise and spill, this improves the sound overall. I haven’t been using a noise gate as;

    – the transitions down to -inf and back again are too obvious, making the room noise more distracting
    – dropping the audio by -8dB, to my ears, provides 90% of the benefit of -inf while still sounding ok for the odd ‘mmm’ reaction from the person who is not talking.

    Is there a way to automate this? I downloaded Waves Vocal Rider hoping it would be the answer but it does exactly the opposite!

    Or am I thinking of this all wrong?
