Activity Forums Audio A question for post film mixing

  • A question for post film mixing

Posted by Ty Ford on June 24, 2019 at 4:31 pm

I have a friend who has a nine minute film. It’s a stereo mix. He has been asked for at least a L/C/R for theaters, for a DCP. I have suggested that he mono the L/R and put it in the center and then use the L and R as L and R.

    Would that work?

    Thanks,

    Ty Ford

    Hi Ty
If supplying L C R stems I expect they mean
the C should only contain dialogue and the L and R only contain Everything except dialogue.
This in addition to a standard stereo mix.

    Thanks Peter,

So he needs to go back and remix for LCR?

    Afraid so
He cant re allocate the audio elements in a LR mix to satisfy the definition of LCR.
Might be worthwhile him talking to whoever is requesting it if thats really hard to achieve, such as it was made ages ago and all media deleted, or he doesnt have access to the track lay anymore etc.

A good reason to ensure you have the stems as a deliverable form each mix.
