  weird issues with audio recording

  An audio professional did a multi-track recording of a play but the recordings came out with a strange issue. When played back, it sounds like it is being scrubbed forward quickly. -perhaps the recording engineer had some sort of sample rate mismatch in his hardware configuration or something. I don’t know exactly how this was recorded.
  This is a very important job. Can someone please take a listen and see if this can be saved? …or at the very least shed some light on what might have happened here?

  You’ll want to skip forward about :40 seconds into the recording. This is an isolated track of the male vocalist.

  Hello Tim and welcome to the Cow Audio forum.

  Could be a sample rate mismatch. Do you know at what sample rate it was recorded and the sample rate on the playback system in which you’re encountering this error?

  An interesting section of audio. I don’t have a clue how that happened, but if selecting a different sample rate doesn’t provide the right results. you might try to open a COPY OF A Track (not the original) as a RAW Track in audacity and fiddle with the track number and sample rate settings.

  Is there a way to playback the audio on the original system on which it was recorded? If so, try that.

  My first step would be to contact the person who made the recording.
  They would seem like the most likely to both identify the problem, and have the gear to resolve the problem.

  Recording audio without metering and monitoring is exactly like framing and focusing without looking at the viewfinder.

  The person who did the recording is baffled as well. He sent me the raw files at my request so I could see if I could fix them. Last I heard he was going to contact the hardware manufacturer. I hope it’s fixable but I suspect it is not.
