  ZOOM H4N & Audio technica 70 pro

  Hay,

  Does anybody has experience or has worked with ZOOM H4N and lavaliere Audio technica 70 pro.
  What are the best setting for interview indoor. If anybody has his own setting can you please share.
  I am testing the mic. but can not get between -12 and -6. If I want that I have to set up Rec output on ZOOM H4N at max. 100. and I hardly hit this margin.

  Hello Vasja and welcome to the Cow Audio Forum.

  Please check that you have a good battery in the AT mic, or that the Phantom Power is turned on on the Zoom.

  Please check that your Zoom input is set to Mic and not Line and that you have no attenuation engaged.

  This are at the moment my settings with mic. Audio technica 70 pro.
  MODE: Stereo
  My setting at the INPUT:
  Lo cut : MIC off, input off
  comp/limiter: MIC COMP2(Vocal)
  Monito: Off
  1/2 Link: on
  Level Auto: off
  Mono mix: off
  Phantom: Off (24V or 48V) The Lavalier handles between 11 -52V) DO I NEED PHANTOM POWER ON AND WHY?Lavalier has it own source of power.
  MS matrix: off

  I had before on Mono mix to save time in Postproduction but the sound was week…When I switch it off it got really better more present. Some people say if mono mix is not on you have just one audio line that moves.The voice is now more present but the rec level has to be around 80.

  Hello Vasja,

  I don’t see any setting that distinguishes between mic and line. Try another mic to see if anything changes.

  If you feed a mic into a line input the input will be very low.

  Maybe the mic isn’t very sensitive to begin with. I don’t know the H4N. Maybe it’s preamps aren’t that good.

  If you have a good battery in the mic , you don’t need phantom.
