connecting studio monitors
connecting studio monitors to my mac, only to monitor either my DV cam [which is hooked up to broadcast monitor] or soundtrack [on mac] what is the best audio mixer/interface? looking at mixers like mackie 402 vlz or Allen & Heath ZED-10 [has usb to mac] OR audio/midi interface like presonius, edirol ua 25x, or mackie big knob? looking for great quality, no driver issues, and no latency when editing.
also what cables are best when there’s a choice to connect it all?

Hello Ruby and welcome to the Cow Audio Forum.
I use the Mackie Big Knob: https://www.mackie.com/products/bigknob/
It has many nice features.As I did, you may also need an Ebtech HE-2 2-Channel Hum Eliminator with 1/4″ Smart Jacks to go from the unbalanced Mac outputs to the Big Knob to scrape off the noise generated by the Mac.
Cables? You can get pretty nutty with cables. I use general purpose, mid priced cables for this part of my system.

Thanks Ty. Appreciate it. Are all outputs on the Mac unbalanced, does it make a difference connecting via USB as the Edirol UA-25EX interface?

Hey Ruby,
I’m using a Bose audio monitor system to monitor audio from my lap top. No noise problems.
Very good consumer sound. Not that I’d want to use it for critical monitoring, but there you have it.
USB seems to bypass the unbalanced audio problems.
